Christmas Junk Journal for Christy

The September swap at Craft Happens was a Holiday Junk Journal. My partner was Christy and she asked for a Christmas themed Junk Journal.

I followed almost all the rules. : )

  • Each junk Journal must have chipboard covers and be fully covered. (No naked chipboard please.) CHECK
  •  Each journal needs to be no bigger than 5 x 7 and no smaller than 4 x 5 Eh, not so much. Mine is 6x6 because I didn't want to waste any paper!
  •  Journals must have approximately 35 to 50 pages. Mine has 52!
  • Please use embellishments on the pages that include but are not limited to: die cuts, embossed stamps, stickers,  rub-ons, ribbons etc. Please keep in mind that we will be writing in these so you would want the embellishments to be relatively flat. I stamped on some of the pages, but I included 2 packs of embellishments and a bag of ribbon. I always worry about embellishments getting in the way, so I just include them as an extra treat.
  • For every ten pages in the junk journal you need to have at least one pocket page, more pockets are always welcome! Pockets can be made from envelopes, paper etc. I got this! I made 7 pockets.
Christy and I have swapped before on another site so I was extremely pleased when I got partnered up with her again. She does excellent work and you can see it on her YouTube channel here

I used two paper stacks for this project: DCWV Glitter Christmas Stack (not sure how old it is) and K&Co Sweet Nectar. Christy said she likes the non-traditional colors (pink, aqua, red, white) and that Sweet Nectar stack had the perfect colors. It just goes to show that you can use non-holiday paper for a holiday project! I *think* all of the printables came from Creativity Prompt. For some reason, the name wasn't on the file when I saved it, so I'm not 100% sure that it is the correct source.

Here are a few (or 20!) pictures of the junk journal I made for Christy. I'm sure she will do a video flip-thru when she receives it. I will update my post with a link to the video when she posts it on her YT channel. I moved recently and haven't been able to find a good spot in the new place to do videos. : (

I struggled with how to decorate the cover. I finally decided on a couple of Jolee Flourish Cabochons and a poinsettia. I left a large portion of the cover blank for Christy to add a favorite photo from the season.

My friend Kris surprised me with the poinsettia and the stick pin was made by my friend Tami. Thanks!

This sheet of vellum quotes is just clipped in the book with a red binder clip trimmed out with some Christmas ribbon. Christy can cut them apart and use them in the book.

A pocket page~I trimmed the flap edge off a bank envelope and covered it with patterned paper to make a pocket.

This is the tag that is in the above pocket.

The DCWV paper is not double-sided so the back of the page is white. Some of the pages I left blank for journaling or pictures. On this page I used a large journaling stamp. The pocket on the right page is made from the clear wrapper and cardboard backing from a Recollections flower. I just trimmed it to fit in the book and covered the back of the cardboard with patterned paper.

This pocket is made out of 1/2 a paper doily. It has a little paper tag from those K&Co tag books.

I received this chipboard star in a swap. The journaling cards are clipped to the star with an arrow-shaped paperclip.

Oh, this is one of my favorite pages in the book. There are 2 of them like this. I picked up a pack of (40!) coasters on clearance at Hobby Lobby a while back. They have a great texture to them. I painted both sides with white acrylic paint. I attached a Tim Holtz adage ticket (from a swap!) with a cute star shaped paperclip.

Another pocket made from a bank envelope~For the tags, I simply cut 2 pieces of vellum and held them together with a shaped paperclip.

I stamped these 2 pages with a stamp from the dollar bin from Michael's.

This is a pocket page made from a square chipboard coaster. I simply glued the paper down on three sides to make a pocket for some printable tags.

Another pocket page~This one holds the rest of that sheet of vellum and a Christmas List.

Winter Subway Art~It is not glued down, just attached with a paper clip.

A few weeks ago I went to the antique mall that's just down the road from my apartment complex. I went in search of vintage magazines. I wanted to use a few pages in this junk journal. After I got the book put together I realized that I forgot to put the magazine pages in it! I know that Christy loves vintage magazines so I just clipped in the back of the book. She can use them in this book or in another project.

The binding~I tied a few pieces of lace and ribbon to the o-wires. I didn't add too much since this book will get pretty fat once you start adding pictures and mementos to the pages. The wooden tag has my info stamped on the back, but I left the front blank so that Christy can add a title or date to the book. I have had these tags for at least 10 years and I'm slowly using them up.

I included some extra bits and pieces to use in decorating the pages.

Thanks for looking through ALL these pictures!
